Ron Weisinger has over 25 years of top management experience in economic development both domestic and international. He is a change agent and has been Executive Director of Northern Nevada Development Authority for five (5) years. The agency, based out of the state capitol, has grown, prospered and will close the current fiscal year with an economic impact to the region of close to $200,000,000.00 (includes both new and expanded companies). The region includes four (4) counties: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey). NNDA also provides technical assistance to three (3) additional counties: Churchill, Mineral, and Pershing (all having their own economic development organizations).
NNDA was funded last year to conduct: NorthernNVision – Imagine the Future, a seven (7) county visioning project to determine how the region and each of the seven counties would like to look like economically15, 20, 25 years from now. This year NNDA has been funded to begin the implementation of that document (which may take up to five years). An implementation project all ready begun is the re-working of 18 rural regional web sites including demographic information updated on a daily basis. The web sites will be coordinated and interconnected showing assets of the region and integrated local government, for profit and non-profit relationships. All of this is geared to assist the prospective client from work force to real estate, community content to financial, and all aspects of making it easier for a national site selector or individual client to have the best possible facts and knowledge prior to making a site relocation decision. An economic branding of the region is currently under way too (Greater Reno-Tahoe, Welcome to Can Do) to meld with and work in conjunction with local tourism bureaus. Phase one of a general rural regional seven (7) county business incubator with the local community college is in the development process and should begin construction by Fall or Winter.
Ron has developed and managed specialized economic development projects from Palm Beach, Florida; Houston, Texas; and Las Vegas, NV (mortgage banking, commercial real estate, a title company, strategic management consulting, and an international trading company) with offices in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He has participated with many local community organizations from the Reno Citizens Institute, Northern Nevada AIA, Nevada Museum of Art, WIN (Western Industrial Nevada), IEDC, as well as numerous organizations from Washington, D.C. to Nevada. He is married and has five children, five grandchildren with another on the way. He lives in Dayton, NV.
